Gen Z in the Workplace: Meeting Expectations and Fostering Growth

Gen Z is the first generation to grow up completely as digital natives, and they are unlikely to remember a time without multiple screens and devices, digital connectedness, social media, etc. Gen Z’ers in the United States are also ethnically diverse and well-educated. Due to the pandemic, many in this generation have had to navigate a new world of remote learning, work, and a different paradigm for career development. Associations are in a unique position to provide a sense of belonging for Gen Z and support for career growth by helping develop paths to economic stability for younger members. Associations can also establish themselves as thought leaders for their industries in areas such as championing work-life balance, promoting timely feedback from employers, and highlighting a mission-driven focus.
